Cyclone’s Weather the Storm and advance to OMHA Semis
The Midget AE Cycs scored 3 goals in the 3rd period to down Saugeen Shores Storm 4-1 sending the Cycs to OMHA semi-finals
With their backs against the wall Saugeen came out determined to extend the series. The 1st two periods presented the fans with a fast paced game, where both teams exchanged numerous scoring chances, but it was the goaltending that stood tall. Jordan Kelly for Saugeen and Nathan Fletcher for the Cycs turned away all shots for the better part of 2 periods. However with time running down in the 2nd period, 14 seconds to be exact, Jason Hollinger would squeak one past Kelly giving the Cycs a 1-0 lead heading into the 2nd intermission (assists D. Boisvert, Young). The late goal seemed to spark the hometown team as they elevated their game in the 3rd , creating several scoring chances with their tenacious fore-checking. Jackson Martin would eventually capitalize as he roofed a wrap-around attempt (assists Alexander, Hicks), then Steve Cleary would put the game out of reach 52 seconds later as he made no mistake on the break-away. To their credit Saugeen didn’t quite closing the gap on the power-play, but Martin’s 2nd of the game with just over a minute remaining (assists E. Boisvert, Alexander) sealed the deal as the Cycs would go on to a 4-1 victory.
