Midget AE’s top BCH
The AE’s finished off what was a busy week of hockey by beating the BCH Ice Dogs 5-1
After playing 6 games in 3 days the AE Cycs return to the ice for a league game against BCH. From the on set it looked like both teams had been playing a lot of hockey as neither the weary Cycs nor the short-handed Ice Dogs had much jump. The hometown boys would open the scoring early in the 1st as Matt Wikans buried a Cory George rebound. The Cycs would add 2 more before the period ended, one a snipe by Drew Hicks (assist Wilkans) and the other a low shot from the slot by Anthony Quipp. The 2nd period was just as sloppy as the 1st but BCH would tally a late goal giving them hope, however the Cycs would score 2 more before the end of the 2nd. The first was a nice shot by Ben Verkley who creped in from the point and the 2nd , less than a minute later, was a well placed backhand by Devon Elg (assist Jordan Rumph).
Heading into the 3rd with a 5-1 led the AE’s started to play with a little more energy. This resulted in several great scoring chances but the BCH tender also stepped up his game as he made several great saves. The game would finish 5-1 for Listowel.
The team’s next action is Sunday night in Listowel @ 8:30 when the AE’s host Drayton.
