PEEWEES OMHA CHAMPIONS !! WIN 6-2 TO SWEEP SERIES
The Listowel Peewee Rep Cyclones traveled to Oro on Wednesday night on a mission to sweep their final OMHA series and bring back the championship trophy to Listowel.  The last and only time Listowel captured a Peewee OMHA championship was 35 years ago (1974) when the Cyclones defeated Unionville four games to two in the best of seven final series.                                                                                          cont'd

Oro jumped out to an early lead when they found the net on the first shift of the game.  Listowel’s Andrew Gooding responded 36 seconds later, only to have Oro go ahead on a short handed effort at the 11:22 mark in the first.  This would prove to be their last goal of the game.  With Oro up by one early in the middle frame, they were awarded a penalty shot. Daniel Dekoning shut down the attacker with a spectacular save.  This charged up the boys in red and provided a much needed boost for the remainder of the period.  Listowel finally tied up the game at the 4:51 mark on a goal by Caleb Warren, and went ahead for the first time with two seconds left in the period when Ted Nichol slid a quick shot between the goaltenders legs.

There was no looking back in the third as the Cyclones added three more unanswered goals.  Gooding completed his hat trick while Blake Nichol added a single marker.  Adding assists on the night were Drew McKee (2), Tyler Hak (2), Warren (2), Gooding (1), Michael McMurren (1), Keaton Willis (1), Blake Buchanan (1), Blake Nichol (1).

The entire Listowel team played a fundamentally sound game, with forwards Hak, Dietz, Gooding, T. Nichol, B. Nichol, Willis, McKee, Warren and Owen Bender hemming Oro in their own end.

The defence staff consisting of McMurren, Matthew Koch, Cole Fletcher and Buchanan did a great job thoughout the series keeping the fast skating Oro team’s chances to a minimum.

Filling out the Listowel roster were goaltenders Daniel Dekoning and Steven Gottfried.
