Pee Wee AE's WOAA Champs
The Listowel Pee Wee AE's are officially number one in Western Ontario.  The Cyclones captured the crown by defeating a surprised Saugeen Shores squad in three straight games.  The series began on January 29th in Southampton.  The Cyclones, perhaps a bit nervous having only beaten this strong team once during the regular season would start slowly.  However, midway thru the first, Riley Conners nifty breakaway deke would provide the Cycs with a much needed spark.  From there they never looked back and cruised to a 4 - 1 victory.  Owen Bender, Riley Thompson and Tyler Russell rounded out the scoring.  Chipping in with assists were Drew McKee (2), Graeden Geiger and Matthew Daviau.

On February 1st, the teams squared off in the comfortable surroundings of Listowel Memorial Arena.  This one was a tight checking affair with all the scoring coming in the second frame.  Again, it was the Cyclones that struck first.  Drew McKee would get things rolling with a beautiful solo effort.  Moments later, Owen Bender made it 2 - 0 with another great individual tally.   After the Storm pulled within one, Graeden Geiger, with help from Conners, would give the Cycs a 3-1 lead after two.  The third was all Saugeen Shores.  However, Cyclone goalie Steven Gottfried was up for the challenge as he turned away shot after shot.  Final score Cycs 3 - SS 1.
Feb. 3rd saw the boys travel to Port Elgin to try and clinch the title with a road win. Led by the captain, the Cycs would show no mercy.  Owen Bender, their quiet leader would have the game of his life potting 4 goals.  Linemates Geiger and Conners would pick up a pair of assists each.  Cole Fletcher, assisted by Austin Service and shifty little Tyler Russell would round out the offence.  Drew McKee picked up an assist on the Russell goal.  Final score Cycs 6 - SS 1. It should be noted that even the Saugeen Shores fans were in awe of how well our Cyclone team worked together and how unselfishly they played. The defensive corp of Tyler Bannerman, Blake Laidlaw, Matthew Daviau, Eric Sousa, and Cole Fletcher were superb in their end of the ice, constantly frustrating the Storm offence.  Also, cudos to goaltender Steven Gottfried who rounded into form and was nothing short of spectacular the entire series.  A very deserved championship boys.
The Pee Wee AE's will now advance to the OMHA quarter finals.  Dates and opponent are yet to be determined.
