Midget AE’s Survive Exciting Finish
The Midget AE Cyclones continued with their improved play and escaped a last second flurry from Milverton with a 2-1 victory.

The big ice surface in Milvy proved to be great setting for what was a fast paced exciting game. The first period saw both teams skating hard and creating scoring chances but it would be the visiting Cycs that would open the scoring when Steve Cleary would finish off a great, hardworking effort by Brody Tucker & Anthony Quipp. The led would be short lived as the Drives answered back 2 minutes later on the power-play. Listowel would regain the led late in the 1st when Michael Lockie buried a perfect feed from Vince McNichol. Despite some great end to end action and several scoring chances the game would remain 2-1 throughout the 2nd and 3rd. However it wasn’t without a bit of controversy. With 3 seconds remaining, a face-off in Listowel’s end and the goalie pulled Milverton almost tied the game. I shot from the face off dot and a goal crease scrum resulted with the puck in the net. While some Milvy players were celebrating the ref ruled that the puck did not cross the line before the buzzer resulting in the Cycs 2-1 victory.

The AE’s are beginning to gel and combined with a much improved work ethic everyone is seeing much better results. The team is now unbeaten in 9 games and have only lost once in their last 12. The Cycs have a busy week which should continue to test them as they play Blyth at home on Tuesday and are in Howick Friday night.
