In their last tune up before the Huntsville tourney the Midget AE’s blanked Mitchell 4-0
From the start it was obvious that this was the 1st game after Christmas as the 1st period featured a sloppy effort, however as the turkey wore off the hometown boys started to find their legs. Late in the first Vince McNichol opened the scoring as he buried an Anthony Quipp rebound. In the 2nd Michael Lockie, while short-handed, stole the puck then rifled a low shot past the Mitchell tender, giving the Cycs the 2-0 led heading into the break. The 3rd buried saw an improved effort by both teams, however it would be Justin Jacklin bulging the twine as his sharp angle shot found the back of the net. With Mitchell feeling the game was out of reach, it got a little chippy, but calmer heads would eventually prevail. Jacklin would tally the Cycs 4th goal into the empty net, giving the Cycs the 4-0 victory. Nathan Fletcher earned his 3rd shut-out of the year and his second straight as he made several solid saves in the 2nd while the team was short-handed then a couple key saves in the 3rd, even one off the stick of a teammate.
The AE’s are off to the Huntsville Otters tournament this weekend where the hope to continue tuning up for the playoffs. This should be a good test as they’ll see several new teams… their weekend starts Friday @ 4:00 vs the Amalguin Ice Devils.
