Another 1 goal game.....
Good effort in a 3-2 loss.
The Novice LL squad were in Palmerston on Monday night facing the Minto Mad Dogs. The team came out with hustle and tenacity from the get go. Minto opened the scoring in the 1st period, however this did not discourage the Cyc's as they worked hard at keeping the opponent at bay not allowing any further scoring chances until late in the second period. Nathan Hallman put a sweet backhander behind the Minto netminder with the assist going to Brandon Wall who made a nice pass infront to tie the game at 1. Minto answered minutes later to put them up 2-1. The defense pairings of Westberg-Jacklin and Zyta-Rothwell worked diligently at keeping the puck out from infront of goalkeeper Lucas Matheson who came up with some great saves. Rothwell and the defense crew were strong at both ends of the ice and hustled to get back on several occasions. Forwards Brent Clemmer, Jake Layton, Liam Cassidy and Marlee Ament hounded the Mad Dogs in the neutral zone and along the boards creating numerous turnovers. Listowel then tied the game at 2 in the third with a great combined effort by Travis Bannerman, Hallman and Seth Johnston, unfortunately the celebration was brief as Minto potted a third tally only 8 seconds later. The Cycs battled 'til the end with Matheson pulled and an extra attacker on, but were unable to solve the Minto keeper. The team played well and with a little more time and aggression in the offensive end this would have been a 'W' for the Cycs.
