Midgets Sweep Sailors, Ready For Next Opponent
The Goderich Sailors returned to Listowel on Sunday night, facing elimination, and showed us their best game of the series, but it just wasn’t enough as the Cyclones finished the series with a 3 – 2 victory.

The Sailors struck early as they notched a marker just 18 seconds into the game with a fluky scramble in front of the net.  The Cyclones answered back late in the first with a scramble of their own as Matt Wilkans found the back of the net assisted by Justin Miller.

Goderich regained the lead early in the second, but it was short lived.  Matt McCracken scored a highlight reel goal as he showed the crowd some soft hands.  McCracken picked-up passes from Ryan Goetz and Alex Balthes and then proceeded to show the goalie his toe drag, snuck across the goal line beside the net, looking like he was going behind the net and then tucked it in behind the tender.  Game tied at two!

Scott Boertein would give the Cycs the lead four minutes later when he tipped in a Wilkans rebound to light the lamp.  Despite numerous power play chances for both teams, with a total of 62 minutes in penalties, there would be no more scoring in this game.   Ben Nelson had a great game in net and turned away a total of 25 shots in the game to pick-up the win.

The Cycs take home the win, sweep the series 6 points to 0, and give new head coach, Ryan Rozendal, his first career win!

The team will play the winner of the Mitchell and Kincardine series to determine who will move on to the OMHA semi-finals.
