Bantams take 2-1 Series Lead
The Cycs won an overtime thriller to take a 2-1 series lead over Goderich

As expected the series between Goderich and Listowel has been very close one as all 3 games have been decided by 1 goal. After winning game 1 in Listowel 3-2 the local lads travelled to the Maitland Rec Centre for the next 2 games.

Game 2 on Monday night saw Goderich come out flying scoring just 6 seconds into the game. However the Cycs would not be rattled as goals by Andrew Gooding, Keaton Willis & Michael McMurren would give the Cycs a 3-1 after 1 period (picking up assists where Tyler Hak-2, Broedy Karelse, Drew McKee). The 2nd period would be a frustrating one as the locals racked up some suspect penalties and to Goderich’s credit they capitalized evening the score at 4’s heading into the 3rd. Caleb Warren would notch the Cycs lone goal of the period with Riley Conners picking up the assist. The 3rd period would see the Sailors jump out to a 2 goal lead, and despite battling hard the Cycs could only cut the deficit to one twice but ran out of time losing 7-6. Willis and Gooding scored in the 3rd with Hak, Willis & McKee picking up helpers.

Game 3 on Thursday night would again be a close contest. This time it would the visiting Cycs who would open the scoring as Dietz finished a nice 3-way passing play… Hak & Gooding picking up assists. As expected, Goderich would respond with a couple goals of their own taking a 2-1 lead after 1 period. Undaunted Cycs would tie the game up on the power-play as Willis finished off the Warren pass (Conners added an assist), then take the lead with 40 seconds remaining in the 2nd as Karelse’s shot eluded the Sailor tender (Willis with the assist). The 3rd period would be a fast paced one with both teams exchanging chances but arrant shots and good saves would keep both teams off the board until late in the game. With just over a minute remaining and on the power-play Goderich would tie the game, meaning the teams would need overtime. Just seconds into the overtime period a solid defensive play by McKee and nice pass by Warren would spring Karelse down the wing and his backhand shot would find the back of the net giving the Cycs the 4-3 overtime win and a 2-1 series lead.

Game 4 is Sunday night in Listowel @ 7:00 and is expected to be another close game as these teams have played 5 times this year with 4 of the games being decided by 1 goal.
