Bantam take 2-0 series lead over Kincardine
In the OMHA quarter finals, the bantam Cycs have taken a 2 game lead over the Kincardine Kinucks, skating to 6-3 and 4-1 victories.

Game 1, in Kincardine, started off with a cautious pace as both teams were feeling each other out, since the strange regular season schedule did not pit these two teams against each other. It would be the Cycs who would strike first late in the 1st when Tyler Hak found the back of the net on a feed from Keaton Willis & Broedy Karelse. A couple minutes later Graeden Geiger would bat home the bouncing puck giving the Cyc the 2-0 lead (Nate Dietz, Michael McMurren assisting). The next period & half was a seesaw affair as Kincardine would score then Listowel would respond, however the turning point of the game was not a goal but a save as Tyler Robinson stopped a breakaway late in the 2nd period preserving a one goal lead. Listowel would retake a 2-goal lead for good mid-way through the 3rd period then add an empty netter to secure the 6-3 victory. Karelse and Willis provided the remaining offense as each scored a pair and Caleb Warren picked up 3 assists, Drew McKee and Karelse rounded out the assists.

Game 2 saw the Cycs return to the Listowel hoping to gain a 2 win advantage and as expected the Kinucks came out much more determined to even the series. The 1st period was a fast paced and close checking affair with neither team generating many scoring chances. However late in the 1st period the Cycs would convert a 2 on 1 chance as Warren laid a nice feed to Geiger who then potted it top shelf giving the Cycs the 1-0 lead. Mid-way through the 2nd Listowel would add to the lead, as McKee sent Willis in on a partial breakaway which he calmly buried. Despite the 2 goal difference the game continued to be a tight checking affair and just seconds into the 3rd Andrew Gooding would burst around the “D” then net the Cycs 3 goal. To the Kinucks credit they did not quite and their efforts were rewarded as they chipped one past Steven Gottfried just minutes later. Geiger would restore the 3 goal lead later in the 3rd as his shot through traffic eluded the Kincardine tender (Dietz drawing an assist). Despite some late game pressure by a good Kincardine team, the Cycs defense stood strong, giving the locals the 4-1 victory and the 2-0 series lead.

Next game in this series is Wednesday night @ 8:30 in Kincardine, with game 4 (if necessary) back in Listowel on Thursday night @ 8:00.
