Cyclone Pee Wee Reps Regional Silver Stick Champions.
The Listowel Cyclone Pee Wee Rep's proved that great defensive play is what can make you Silver Stick champions.
The Cyclone squad allowed only one goal over the 15 periods of hockey in the five game they played. Also an amazing fact in the tournament was the 34 shots on goal allowed.
It all begins with good goaltending and with Nick O'Grady out of action for the first two games with the flu, affiliated goalie Luke Brubacher stepped up and recorded shutouts in both Tuesday games. Listowel defeated Hanover 5-0 and Erin Hillsburg by an identical 5-0 score.
Back in the lineup on Thursday Nick O'grady led the Cyc's to a 3-1 win over the Ayr Flames. This win put the boys into the semi-finals vs Kincardine. This semi-final game was left wide open by the referee's from Kincardine and the Cyc'c had to play through some very questionable non calls to defeat the Kinucks 4-0.
Friday afternoon was set and it had league rivals Goderich Sailors ready to do battle with the red hot Pee Wee boys. The game started out with alot of end to end action, both goaltenders made nice saves. The game served to be an exciting one and the Cyclone boys came away as the Regional Silver Stick Champions.
Team players are as follows:
33 Goalie Nick O'Grady - timely solid goalteding, two shutouts, three wins and one goal against
1 Goalie Luke Brubacher - great play both games, two shutout and two wins
2 Right Winger Lucas Jamieson - timely offensive play, solid play in offensive end all tournament
3 Left Winger Michael Uptigrove - very solid boards play in own end and couple timely goals
4 Center Austin McGrath - moved to center for tournament, very solid penalty killer and timely goal
6 Left Winger Cooper Miller - strong neutral zone play with some big hits, worked puck well deep in offensive zone
7 Right Winger Brett MacLeod - provided strong play in offensive zone, timely goals and strong penalty kill.
8 Left Winger Jacob Robinson - strong forechecking and backchecking skills (dont let his size fool you)
9 Defence Reece Reading - timely goals and strong leadership, played very strong on puck entire tournament
10 Center Josh Gottfried - strong leadership role, timely goals and relentless forechecker
11 Right Winger Josh Coehlo - big strong player on puck, timely scoring and hard worker
12 Defence Curtis Jackson - strong defensive play, moved puck well, good leader
14 Defence Will Calder - tough on puck with some big hits, strong penalty kill
16 Defence Reid Gooding - made some huge hits, strong play in neutral zone
17 Center Derek Fischer - timely goal scoring, strong power play, good leadership
The coaches Ken Jacklin, Tim Good, Brent Berfelz , Ryan Rozendal and Trevor Reading would like to congratulate the boys on a strong tournament. As Ken says were only half way there though, now we win International Silver Stick.
