This past week the Cycs got to face-off against two of the
leagues better teams in BCH & Mt Forest, and the bantams managed a 2-2 tie and
3-1 win respectively.
Tuesday night the young Cycs headed to Clinton to face the
BCH Icedogs. The Listowel lads would get on the board 1st as Cole
McKee backhand found the back of the net (Reece Johnson & Austin McGrath
assisting). BCH would tie the game at 1’s
shortly after then take the lead early in the second. About mid-way through the
frame Johnson would convert the McGrath pass which would again tie the game at
2’s (McKee drew the 2nd assist). The 3rd period was a see-saw
affair with neither team being able to score. Braeden Ellis was rock solid in the
Cycs net which helped to preserve the 2-2 tie. Special thanks to the 3 AP’s (McGrath,
Reid Gooding & Cooper Miller) who helped out this game and filled in
admirably.
Sunday night the Cycs traveled to Mt Forest to face another
good team from Mt Forest. The hometown Rams came out strong controlling the
play early but again it would be the Cycs that score 1st on the
power-play as Johnson banged home the rebound (Ben Rothwell & Bryce
Fletcher assisting). Undaunted the Rams continued to pressure the Cycs who didn’t
seem mentally into the game, thus giving up the tying goal late in the 1st.
The 2nd period saw a more balance game as the Cycs started to get
their legs and were rewarded as Lucas Jamieson was sprung on a break-away by
Bailey Matheson and he made no mistake putting the local lads up 2-1. In the 3rd
the Cycs seemed to step up their positional play and effort which again showed
up on the scoreboard when Fletcher’s blast eluded the tender (Johnson &
McKee assisting). This would be all the scoring needed as Jacob Nethercott shut
the door in the Cycs net turning away any scoring chances the Ram’s mustered.
The bantams have a couple games this upcoming
weekend against Hanover on Saturday then Goderich at home on Sunday night.
