Novice Rep Cyclone Update
September 28 & 29 games......

On Saturday, September 28th, our team of fourteen black, red and white skaters made the road trip to St. Clements to face off for their second exhibition game against Twin Centers. During their first match up a week earlier in Listowel, the Cycs were able to manage a gritty, last minute 4 -4 tie. Home ice advantage proved to be the difference maker in their second meeting and Twin Centers came away with the win.

Being down one or two goals, however, didn’t dampen the Cyclone spirit and fans were treated to a few nice, head-man passes, some “dig deep” back checking along with a couple solid, breakaway saves by rookie net minder, JZ (Jack Zilliax). The lone marker for the Cycs was a tap-in by Cole Shouten following a high backhand, break away pass from defenseman Reid Williams, and a heads-up effort by Shouten to follow the puck to the net.

On Sunday, the Cycs took to home ice to face off against the Mitchell Meteors. The Meteors came out hard and strong taking an early lead in the game. Again, however, the black, red and white did not let this deter them and they were able to slow Mitchell’s momentum by increasing their puck pressure and by making some key defensive stops at both blue lines.

By the end of the thirty-five minutes, the Cycs were able to pot three “g’s” against the Meteors. James Bender’s hard work in front of Mitchell’s net was rewarded and he was able to go five hole for his first snipe of the year. More hard work along the boards by Harrison Meulensteen and a great tape-to-tape pass sent a well-positioned Jesse Coombs in on net and resulted with another five hole snipe. Colin Spalding tallied the Cycs third goal of the game when he tapped in a rebound with only fourty-four seconds left in regulation.

The Novice Cycs next action will be on Sunday, Oct. 6th when the team of fourteen will host the Goderich Sailors @ 3:00pm. They will then travel to Mitchell on Monday, Oct. 7th for a 7:00pm rematch against the Meteors.
