Novice Cycs Have Solid Outing vs. Goderich
On Sunday, Oct. 20th, the team of fourteen took to home ice to host the Goderich Sailors. In their last meeting, Goderich took an early lead in the game but relied heavily on the effort of one of their key players. The Cycs took note of this during their pre-game chat on Sunday and were not about to let history repeat itself.

This time around, it was the mentally and physically prepared Cyclones who were on the scoreboard first. “The boys were taking the puck to the net, back checking hard and getting a stick on every Goderich puck carrier,” commented coach Meulensteen.  His team continued with their solid work ethic, applying the skills they had learned in practice throughout the first period and greeted the buzzer with a 2 – 0 lead. Cyclone scoring in the first came from Tate Vader and Cole Schouten.

The Cycs let off the gas a little in the second period and Goderich managed to make it a tie game by the about the five minute mark. Coach Meulensteen gathered his team and helped them to refocus. The boys responded to his call and by the end of the period they had regained their two-goal lead. This time the goals came from Sheldon Weale and Colin Spalding.

The small but mighty Cyclones, unleashed a storm in the third period and were relentless in taking the puck to the net as well. Goderich was able to manage to get a pair of markers but they were not able to withstand the black, red and white fury who was able to pot five more of their own.  Scorers for the Cycs in the third period were Jesse Coombs with a single, along with Weale and Schouten who each had a pair giving them both hat tricks to write about in their school journals. Final score 9 – 4.

Well done, boys!
