Game in Review – Oct. 28, 2014 – Listowel AE vrs Zurich
Hopes were high for our team in their rematch against Zurich
on the 28th of October. The fans were hoping the home ice advantage
and the pre- Hallowe’en excitement would pour in to the efforts of the players,
and the players did not disappoint!
The first period was fairly evenly matched with almost equal shots at both ends of the boards. A penalty call at 6 1/2 minutes left in the first period gave Zurich the one man advantage they were hoping for – Zurich scored first during this penalty. A second penalty came approximately 3 ½ minutes later, but excellent defensive play and goaltending kept the Zurich team at bay.
In the second period the Listowel team came alive almost doubling the shots on net compared to Zurich. It was the Zurich’s team to let their emotions take over and get a couple of penalties, but great defensive play from the Zurich team kept the Listowel team scoreless. Listowel’s first goal came at 5.40 minutes left in the second period –Mayberry scored the goal with a well-timed assist from Evans. The end of the period saw another penalty to the Zurich team.
The third period saw the Zurich team come alive tripling their shots on net from the previous period! Excellent defense from Zimmerman, Westberg, Vance and Reesor kept the shots a little at bay and the goaltending by Hawthorne was stellar! Our forwards also kept the pressure on at the other end of the ice, and were finally rewarded for their efforts with just over 7minutes left to play. Mayberry received his second goal of the game with an assist from Robinson. With 39 seconds left, the Zurich team pulled their goalie for the man advantage. Excellent defensive play by all kept the score as a win for Listowel ! Congratulations team!
