Game in Review – Nov. 4, 2014 – Listowel AE vrs Walkerton AE
The post Hallowe’en celebrations found our team playing a
little flat this week. Our first game against Walkerton found both teams with
short benches, promising a skating workout for all the players.
The Listowel fans could tell the Walkerton team were eager for their first win of the regular season, more than doubling the number of shots on net compared to our home town team. Walkerton was the first to score during the first period with just over 3 minutes left. Walkertons’ emotions were running high with a number of penalties to their team in the first two periods, but our team could not get it past the Walkerton defense and goaltending. Our teams’ only goal came at just under 3 minutes left in the second period – Johnston scored the goal with assists from Evans and Schultz.
The third period found our team still playing with post sugar rush lag – the Walkerton team continued to pile up the penalties, but Listowel could not capitalize on these opportunities. A couple of late in the game penalties from Listowel players gave Walkerton the advantage they were hoping for. With just under 2 minutes left to play, and a 2 player advantage, Walkerton scored the winning goal.
