Game in Review January 13th Playdowns
Tues. Jan 13, 2015-Playdowns - Listowel Bantam AE vrs Walkerton Bantam AE The coin toss was in our favour and has given our team the home ice advantage for this series. In the last two games against Walkerton, the teams were fairly evenly matched even though Walkerton was the winning team in both previous games. The first period was very evenly matched, with almost equal scoring opportunities at both ends of the ice. There was lots of action by all the forwards, which the fans were happy to see! Both teams kept their cool for most of the period, with only one penalty given to the Walkerton team near the end of the period. Our home town boys were unable to capitalize on this opportunity, but things were certainly starting to heat up!!

The next period found both teams emotions running over, and a slew of penalties occurred by both teams. The scoring chances increased with one person down on each team considerably! The cow bells finally got to come out when the Listowel team was the first to score – 8 sec. into the second period, Johnson found the back of the net with an assist from Robinson (and some hardy encouragement to SHOT from the stands). The Walkerton team was not to be outdone, and came back and scored 2 goals during this period as well – having the intermission score of 2-1 for Walkerton.

The third period found our players energy level back up, keeping their penalty minutes down which then increased their scoring opportunities! At 7.59 in the third, the cowbells were sounded again as Johnson scored with an assist from Robinson and Matheson. 52 seconds later the Walkerton team answered back with a goal to go ahead again. The Listowel team was not to be outdone, and during the next Walkerton penalty, Robinson tied it up an assist from Zimmerman. Great defensive play from Johnson, Vance, Westberg and Zimmerman kept the Walkerton team at bay, and Hawthorne in net ensured Walkerton could not answer back with another goal. Less than 2 minutes later Jacklin scored the final goal of the game with an assist from Robinson, leaving the final score as 4-3 for Listowel. The fans are looking forward to next weeks’ game in Walkerton to have even more scoring opportunities for our team!
