Midgets Capture WOAA Title
The Midgets travelled to Kincardine on Jan 29th to face the Kinucks, hoping to eliminate them from the playoffs. The boys had the pleasure of watching the peewees beat the Kinucks in OT before their game began.
The Cycs came out hard and were rewarded with a goal just four minutes into the game when Zach Robinson finished off a pass from Bailey Matheson and found the back of the net.
Cooper Miller made no mistake when he fired the puck top shelf and would stretch the lead to two with a power play marker midway through the second. The two teams shared lots of scoring chances, but it would be the Kinucks with the next goal with just under seven minutes left in the third. This gave the Kinucks their second wind and they were very aggressive and had the Cycs on their heels for the next couple of minutes. Nick O’ Grady was stellar between the pipes and kept the Kinucks at one goal.
The game ended with a 2-1 win for the Cycs, giving them the WOAA Midget AE title and a spot in the OMHA quarter finals. The Cycs will be playing either Hespeler or Thorold in their next OMHA round.
