Peewee Reps Off to a Stellar Start
The Listowel Pee Wee’s have had a busy start to the season thus far.  Their first big test was the St. Thomas tournament in the middle of October.  With wins over Amherstburg, Dorchester, and Uxbridge, and playing to draws against Guelph and St. Thomas, the boys made it to the finals to play Grimsby, who they eventually lost a nail-biter to a score of 3-2.

The following weekend saw the team continue the road trip to the Schomberg Red and White Tournament.  The Cyclones won their division with wins over Erin Hillsburg,  Mount Brydges, and Penetang, and that led to the championship game versus TCDMHA.

With relentless pressure from the forwards, coupled with the defence allowing very few shots on net, the team was able to help Josh go all tournament with no goals scored on him, netting 4 shut-outs, and winning the final game by a 9-0 slaughtering over TCDMHA, thus handing Listowel the Championship trophy.  An interesting note about the tournament is that Josh, Jordan ,Carter Servais, Chet, Tayttum and Colin have played in the tournament 3 times in their Atom and Pee Wee seasons, resulting in Championships in all 3 attempts.

Saturday, the team ventured to Hensall to take on the BCH Ice Dogs.  Much to pleasure of his teammates, and the fans, it was a delight to see Kristopher back on the ice from being on the injured reserve list for the past 6 weeks. His dedication to the team was always present as he made it to watch and cheer his team in many arenas as he was recovering.

At the 8-minute mark in the 1st period, BCH were able to sneak one past Josh to give them an early advantage.  During most of the 1st period, and well into the 2nd period, Listowel had numerous scoring chances in close, but BCH’s goaltender stood his ground to deny shot after shot.  Then, at 4:56, with Carter Servais battling low in BCH’s end along the boards, he spotted Colin on the point.  With a shot that ricochets off a BCH defender, the puck finds the back of the net which gives Colin the goal, Carter an assist, and the momentum swings back to Listowel’s favour.

At the start of the 3rd period, Coach Ken knows the team needs to continue the pressure that finds Listowel winning the shots on net margin by 17-2.  Listowel’s defence, along with the forwards back checking kept BCH’s chances to a minimum.

Then, as Listowel started on yet another breakout of their end, Carter Servais received a pass in the neutral and does whet he does best and buried one to give him the goal, Colin the assist, and Listowel the lead with 6 minutes left.  Josh held the Ice Dogs to only the lone goal, and Listowel wins a close one 2-1.

Next on the agenda is for the Pee Wee parents to continue shaking their heads in silent wonderment at the skill displayed by P. Brennan Photography, as they marvel at their kids individual photos taken this past week.  Thank you Patrick!
