Peewee Reps Have Clear Goal in Mind for Mitchell Tournament
This past weekend had Listowel participating in the 60th Annual Mitchell Pee Wee Tournament.

After out-scoring their opponents 14-1, which included Tavistock, Midland, Ingersoll, and Walkerton, the Cyclones faced the Midland Centennials in the championship game on Sunday.  With the weather being not so winter-like; sunny, a light breeze, 10 degrees Celsius, some with shorts on, it put everyone in great humour, especially the local car dealership owners that could almost smell the winter tires melting off the rims in the parking lot.

Midland boasts a 15-6-2 record and Listowel, a 21-1-3 showing so far this year.  As the Listowel father’s scan the opposing crowd, the conclusion according to Patrick’s theory, will have the Listowel boys up against an aggressive opponent.  As we have grown to expect with the team thus far, the game started out with few scoring chances for the opposition.  At around the 9-minute mark in the 1st period, Listowel was applying an extreme amount of pressure in the Midland zone.  Pressure, only equal to the amount used by a veterinarian to slide-into-a-wetsuit-before-kite-boarding kind of pressure.  Then at 8:57, Jordan unleashed a low wrist shot from the point that was deflected by Chet and tipped in by Maddox to give Listowel the lead.

Looking to put Midland on the defensive, only 2 minutes later Jordan again found the puck at the top of the circle and fired a beauty to beat the Midland goalie high on the blocker side.

The 2nd period was full of extraordinary defensive play on both sides of the puck.  With only 2:52 left, Maddox banked the puck to Benny, and then Benny found Chet who made no mistake and grew the lead to 3 goals.  During the break between periods, Assistant Coach Rick could be seen hand gesturing the group to slow things down, and to be sure of your decisions with the puck.

Just 3 minutes in, Coates sees an opportunity and lets a shot go just as the goalie is screened to give the team a 4-0 advantage.  The next 10 minutes did not see Midland give up at all, and Listowel held the blue line unfazed at the barrage of rushes made by the Centennials.  Mr. Servais finally got rewarded for his persistence and contributed to
the growing lead to make the final score 5-0.

The Pee Wee Reps exhibited remarkable modesty and decorum with the championship win, representing Listowel in top form both during the game, and after.

Congratulations Boys on your 2nd tournament win of the season.
