Listowel Novice LL Red took the sting out of the Howick
Hornets with a 4-0 win on Tuesday.
Noah Szasz earned his first shutout while improving to 6-0-1 on the season.
The defensive unit of Oliver Hershey, Warner Hurst, Brynn Berfelz and Finn Molenhuis were a big help as they cleaned up rebounds in front of the net and broke up several odd-man rushes.
Listowel was held off the board until the final minute of the second period. That’s when Noah Hiemstra popped in a pass from Kole Schiestel after some pressure by linemate Nehemiah Dyck.
Schiestel made it a 2-0 contest with a breakaway tally in the third period as Listowel’s offense came to life.
The attack was aided by some hard work and in-tight shots by Ruby Hillier, whose efforts earned her the Player of the Game medallion. Her line broke though with the third goal of the game as Spencer Henhoeffer tucked away a pass from Grayson Matheson.
Molehuis completed the scoring with a minute left in the final frame, sneaking a shot from the point past the Howick goaltender.
Listowel will try to remain undefeated with a 9am match in Hanover on Saturday.
