Red Receives First L Of The Season
Listowel Novice LL Red took their first loss of the 2017-18 season, falling 5-0 at the hands of the Wallace Sabres on Saturday.

Red felt the pierce of the Sabres’ offense early, as Wallace scored two first-period goals to jump out in front.  Listowel remained on their heels for much of the opening frame before settling down in the second, allowing just one Wallace marker.

The Sabres potted a pair in the third period to complete the scoring, including Kayde Smith’s fourth goal of the afternoon.

While the score appeared lopsided, Listowel’s defensive unit had one of their best collective efforts in what was by far their toughest test of the year.

The group was led by Brynn Berfelz, whose outstanding play at both ends of the rink earned her Player of the Game honours.  Joining her was Finn Molenhuis with a terrific transition game, Oliver Hershey, who took several hits to make plays out of his own end, and Warner Hurst, who held the offensive blue line as well as he had all season.

The line of Kole Shiestel, Nehemiah Dyck and Noah Hiemstra generated several in-tight chances to score but were unable to get a puck behind the Wallace goalie.  Grayson Matheson, Ruby Hillier and Spencer Henhoeffer did manage to sneak one past the Sabres netminder, but were only able to hit iron.

Red will look to get back in the win column again on Wednesday evening with a battle against Listowel Black.
