Listowel Novice LL Red lost their final game of the regular
season, 5-1, to the first-place Wallace Sabres on Thursday.
Red’s lone tally came from Nehemiah Dyck as he shoveled in a rebound after shots by Finn Molenhuis and Noah Hiemstra were stopped.
Though a handful got by him, Listowel goaltender Noah Szasz put together one of his best performances of the year, including several great glove saves.
He, of course, had lots of help from his defensive teammates. Oliver Hershey and Warner Hurst turned away multiple Wallace odd-man rushes while Grayson Matheson and Brynn Befelz cleaned up the loose pucks in front of the net.
The line of Ruby Hillier, Spencer Henhoeffer and Kole Schiestel also played well at both ends of the rink but were unable to squeak one past the Sabres netminder.
Red finishes the 2017-18 campaign with an impressive 13-3-2 record.
The team will practice over the next two weeks before the Norwood Tournament on February 10 and 11. Then the squad will proceed into the playoffs in the following week.
