Listowel Novice LL Red came within inches of tying the game
in the final minute on Saturday, but were instead handed a 5-3 loss by the Hanover
Falcons 1.
Red got down a trio of goals in the first period but managed to claw their way back into the game with a pair of goals from Finn Molenhuis in the second period. However, in that middle frame, Hanover managed to sneak in a late goal, taking a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.
Listowel kept pushing in the third period, coming within one with three minutes left as Molenhuis completed the hat-trick, a task good enough to earn him the Player of the Game medallion.
Red then pulled the goalie and got a puck to the goal line with about 15 seconds left, but were unable to jam the disc past the Hanover netminder’s outstretched stick.
The Falcons skated the puck into the empty net with less than one second remaining in regulation, making it 5-3 on Tava Lester’s 8th goal of the home-and-home series.
There’s no rest for Red though as they’ll head back to Hanover to play their other team, Falons 2, at 2:30 pm on Sunday.
