Red Comes Up Short In Second Stint At Hanover
Listowel Novice LL Red took a loss for the second time in as many days at Hanover’s P&H Centre, this time at the hands of the Falcons 2, by a score of 3-1.

Red opened the scoring late in the first period as Noah Hiemstra put a puck on goal from the blue line that was eventually jammed in by his linemates, Finn Molenhuis and Nehemiah Dyck, as they drove the net hard.

The goal was also set up by a long stretch pass from Grayson Matheson.  The speedy D-man’s play at both ends of the rink were enough for him to earn Sunday’s Player of the Game honours.

Hanover tied the game and took a one-goal lead in the middle frame.  Red thought they’d tied the game on a last-second shot by Spencer Henhoeffer to end the period, but the refs deemed that the puck had crossed the line a moment after the buzzer sounded.

Noah Szasz, donning a new Star Wars bucket, made several key breakaway saves to keep the game close.  Helping him do so were the “Bash brothers”, Oliver Hershey and Warner Hurst, and Brynn Berfelz, as they broke up several odd-man rushes to keep the Falcons at bay.

The line of Ruby Hillier, Kole Schiestel and Henhoeffer generated several more scoring opportunities, especially late, but were unable to dent the twine.

Red will have their chance to even the home-and-home series on Wednesday at 6:30pm back at the Steve Kerr Memorial Complex.
