Novice Black Earns First Win
Listowel Novice LL Black opened up the 2018-19 season with a convincing win over Zurich at the Steve Kerr Memorial Complex on Saturday.

Zack Brooks got Black on the board in the opening period on his first goal of the afternoon, with assists going to a pair of D partners, Blake McTavish and Brynn Berfelz.

However, Zurich answered quickly with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

The visitors kept pressing but goaltender Koen Martin stood his ground with several breakaway and in-tight saves which eventually turned the tide of the game.  He was helped largely by the other defensive tandem of Warner Hurst and Fiona Johnson who controlled much of the flow between both blue lines.

Brooks and fellow center, Noah Hiemstra, each potted a pair of goals in the middle frame as Listowel came out of the period with a 5-2 advantage.

Black took its team play up another notch in the third as the rotating cast of wingers began to find their mark.

Cole Parsons, Linc Lannin, Lucas Kuepfer, Rory Magee and Kenton Heathers paced play and forced plenty of offensive turnovers which turned into six unanswered goals to cap an 11-2 victory.

Oliver Hershey was away for the afternoon’s action but hopes to be able to suit up for Black’s next battle.
