Listowel Novice LL Black returned to game action after a
three-week hiatus on Saturday. Though
the scoreboard didn’t reflect exactly what they wanted, the home side played
perhaps their best game of the season against the undefeated Seaforth Stars.
The solid effort started from the back end as goaltender Koen Martin played his best game of 2018, standing tall under a barrage of shots while flashing more leather than an 80’s rock band.
Aiding the netminder were two tandems of defense. Brynn Berfelz and Fiona Johnson hustled to clear pucks from in front for a full 30 minutes while Warner Hurst and Oliver Hershey flexed their muscles to stymie the Stars at both blue lines.
The forward line of Lucas Kuepfer, Linc Lannin and Blake McTavish did well to mesh together and came close to banging in a rebound or two. Rory Magee, Zack Brooks and Noah Hiemstra also sustained pressure in their opponent’s end for long periods of time but came up empty as well.
Despite the 5-0 loss, Listowel’s game appeared to be much improved after nearly a month of practice. They’ll look to get back in the win column next week Saturday as they meet Minto for a noon matchup at the SKMC.
