Red Draws Even With Walkerton
Listowel Atom Red played to a 2-2 tie in their Saturday contest versus the Walkerton Capitals.

Both teams played scoreless hockey for a period and a half before the Capitals got on the board.

Red rallied in the third period, tying the game, 1-1, as Kingston Powell buried a rebound. The snipe was set up by both of his linemates, Owen Alexander and Blake McTavish, who each picked up an assist with their high-pressure attack.

Walkerton re-took its lead a minute later but Red once again returned the game to a tie.

With two minutes to go, Noah Hiemsta threw a backhander up under the bar for Listowel's second goal. The center was sprung free from his own end by the defensive pair of Brynlee Binning and Lucas McLoed, moving the puck well in their own end to turn defense into offense.

Fellow wingers, Nehemiah Dyck, Ruby Hillier and Linc Lannin also had a flurry of chances but were unable to sneak one through.

Goaltender Ryan Reath did not earn a win, but was perhaps the biggest reason for the tie as he made many in-tight saves - including a breakaway with five seconds left - in what was the best performance in his first year as a goalie.

Aiding him throughout the contest were the bash brothers, Warner Hurst and Oliver Hershey, as the duo returned together on the blue line to keep the Capitals forwards in check all evening.

There will be no time for Red to rest as the squad has a date in Drayton with the Defenders on Sunday at 12:45 pm.
