WOAA U9 Finals Game 1 goes to the Cycs!
The Listowel U9 Reps travelled to Hanover on Tuesday night for game 1 of the WOAA U9 Rep Finals vs the Walkerton Capitals and came away with a hard fought 3-2 victory.

You could tell both teams were a bit nervous as the first period didn't see much in the way of offensive action.  Add in a warm puck that wasn't moving very well on the ice and we ended up with a lot of neutral zone action and a scoreless first period.

The young Cyclones came out flying in the second period and on an early power play Luke Strickler broke the ice with a shot from the slot assisted by Kaden Neves and Ripken Harrison.  Less than a minute later Ian Magee took a feed from Gray Parkhouse and Hudson Williams and slid it past the Walkerton goalie to make it 2-0.  Walkerton was a bit on their heels as Listowel came close to making it 3-0.  They eventually got down into the Listowel zone and buried one to close to the game to 2-1.  Not wanting to let the positive momentum they had built go to waste, Strickler added another one unassisted to restore the 2 goal lead heading into the final period.

The third saw a hungry Walkerton team attack the zone for most of the period but forwards Maddox Birk and Lewis Nichol along with the defence corp of Neves, Parkhouse, Max Zilliax, Seth Cameron and Matty Williams limited the quality chances with great backchecking and solid play in their own end.  The Capitals talented forwards did get loose a number of times but goalie Declan McArthur was clearly up to the task turning away everything he faced until a loose puck was banged in at the side of the net by Walkerton with just over a minute left to play tightening the score to 3-2.  It was a nervous finish for the large contingent of Cyclone fans that made the trip to Hanover but our boys were up to the task and preserved the one goal lead and taking game 1.

Game 2 goes tonight at the Steve Kerr Memorial Complex, we hope to see you there!!
