Cyclones Make It To Silver Stick Semis
The Listowel U13-AE Cyclones made it as far as the semifinals at this weekend's regional Silver Stick tournament in Collingwood.

Listowel started with a 5-2 loss to Collingwood Friday morning. It was Nehemiah Dyck who who got red and white on the board as he tied the game, 1-1, in the first period with a wrister over the Blues' goalie after Liam Ough and Hudson Ireland dug the puck out and picked up the assists.

Down 3-1 in the middle frame, Ireland forced a loose puck for his linemates to scoop up as Ryan Jurgens and Noah Hiemstra combined to get the puck back to No. 4 in front of the net for a tap-in tally.

That was all the offense for the Cycs in the morning, as the well-rested host team showed their speed and poured on the offense. Goalie Ryan Reath kept his mates close the whole way and earned himself Player of the Game honours.

Next up was Penetang in the afternoon, a Flames crew who won 8-0 earlier in the day.

Listowel kept things tied at 1's all the way into the third period until Penetang potted their second goal and capped the scoring with an empty netter for a penalty-filled 3-1 final score.

The Cyclones lone tally came off the stick of Liam Ough who darted in on a breakaway and finished things off with an in-tight deke.

Jacob Hodder's smooth skating and crisp passing help him pick up Player of the Game.

After a night of food and fun the Cycs were back at it on Saturday to take on the Midland Centennials.

Listowel's forechecking prowess presented itself in the form of a 3-1 win.

Player of the Game Avery Spencer led the way with a pair of goals, banging in a rebound on the backhand for one, and depositing a slick feed by Owen Alexander from behind the net for his second.

The insurance marker came near the end of the contest as Malcolm Long took a pass in his own end from Spencer Henhoeffer, flew down the right side and quickly snapped a puck over the Midland keeper.

Finn Molenhuis blocked shots and skated to his top potential and was credited for his work postgame by Reath, who nabbed his first shutout this season with the AE squad.

With the victory - it was on to the semifinals in the afternoon.

Listowel was in tough once more meeting Collingwood for the second time.

The hosts used their big bench to the fullest and utilized their speed to skate to a 7-1 win. It should be noted that through the first two days of the tourney, the only team to score on the host team was in fact Listowel.

The Cylones' lone goal was Spencer's third of the day, as he pounced on the rebound from a Hodder blast and slid it in.

PotG nod went to Ireland who flashed speed and skill at both ends of the rink.

After a four-game weekend, Listowel will next connect with Kincardine at the SKMC at 7:35pm on Wednesday.
