Cyclones Kick Off Playoffs in Keady
The Listowel U13-AE Cyclones returned from their 1-2-1 Ennismore tournament to begin postseason play on Tuesday.
The Cycs played the Rebels to a 0-0 tie through two periods but the contest eventually ended in a 3-0 defeat.
Goaltender Austin Frey was tested throughout the entire game and it took an own-goal deflection off a defenseman to break his shutout. He then continued on to keep the game close and finished with one of his best performances of the season.
Listowel's defensive tandems of Finn Molenhuis/Jacob Hodder and Malcolm Long/Spencer Henhoeffer kept the speedy rebel forwards to the outside all evening - a much improved effort on their prior trip to Keady.
The forward lines of Owen Alexander/Noah Hiemstra/Avery Spencer and Ryan Jurgens/Hudson Ireland/Liam Ough all forechecked with tenacity. The peskiness kept the Rebel defenders pinned in their own end all game and led to numerous chances off turnovers, including a few narrow misses with the goalie pulled in the final minute.
Nehemiah Dyck was away for the night (tall guy convention) and the club hopes he'll be back for their next playoff tilt, an 8pm meeting in Mitchell on Friday.
