U13 Cycs pick up tie in season opener
The U13 Cyclones got their regular season started with a hard fought tie with their close rivals from Mitchell.
The game didn't start as Listowel had hoped with Mitchell finding the net early. It didn't seem to bother the boys as Coleson Beirnes answered quickly to tie the game at 1 on an unassisted effort. A minute later the Cycs were at it again as Waide Beirnes picked up a pass from Coleson Beirnes to take a 2-1 lead into the second period.
The second saw lots of back and forth with neither able to break through until with less than 5 minutes left the Meteors forced a turnover at centre and scored to tie the game on a breakaway. Another defensive breakdown allowed the visitors the go ahead goal and the Cycs went to the dressing room for the break down 3-2.
Whatever coach Brooks said in the room seemed to get the boys going as they stormed out in the third period and carried the play for most of the frame. At the 8 minute mark Emerson Smith carried the puck out of the zone and fed a wide open Zack Brooks who fired it home and tied the game. The Cycs pushed hard for the win and had multiple chances but couldn't find the net for the win. They'll take a hard fought tie, but a full game of the third period effort from this group is going to produce the results they want.
Next up for the Cyclones is the Walkerton Capitals on October 25, the Caps are always strong so this should be a good test for the boys.
