Midget AE Cycs take Game 1
The Cycs tallied 3 third period goals to take game one 4-1 over Mitchell Meteors.
Those expecting a good close series, between the midget AE Cycs and Mitchell where treated to just that in game one of the OMHA playoff series. The 1st period saw both teams come out a little tentative, maybe just feeling their opponent out. However late in the 1st the Cycs would open the scoring as Dustin Langer tipped home the Dilan Boisvert shot. As the game continued, both teams picked up their intensity which in turn resulted in some great scoring chances at both ends. Listowel’s goalie Andy Leith was rock solid as was the Meteor tender. Mitchell would tie the game in the 3rd on the power-play sending the teams into the break at 1 apiece.
In the 3rd the hometown team came out with a little extra determination and where rewarded with a fluky goal. Boisvert’s point shot hit the Mitchell goalie then bounced up over him into the net giving the Cycs the 2-1 led (assist Cory George). This break seemed to spark the local lads as they would pot 2 more goals within the next 3 minutes. First Jason Hollinger’s shot would elude the goalie (assist Scott Boertien), then Devon Elg would convert the Hollinger pass to put the Cycs up 4-1. That would be all the offense needed as Leith shut the door preserving the victory and the series lead.
The series continues next Wednesday night in Mitchell, game time 9:00 then game 3 is back in Listowel Sun. Jan. 24th @ 8:30.
