Bantam Chalk Up 2 More Victories

The young Cyclones extend their winning streak by beating Mitchell 6-1 and Walkerton 6-2

The bantams continue to battle the odds as their streak extends to 24 games without a loss. However as expected, every game, their opposition get geared up to hand the Cycs their 1st loss. And this weeks games against Mitchell and Walkerton were no exception as both teams came out determined.

Sunday night’s game against Mitchell had a great pace with both teams exchanging early chances. The hometown Cycs would open the scoring late in the 1st when Caleb Warren deposited the Keaton Willis feed into the back of the net. The Cycs would strike 2 more times early in the 2nd as Owen Bender would snip a shot home from the slot (Warren & Matt Koch assisting) then Broedy Karelse would pot the teams 3rd goal (Blake Buchanan and Cole Dannemann assisting). The Meteors would close the gap just seconds later, sending the game into the 3rd period at 3-1. The 3rd period was controlled for the most part by the Cycs and the scoreboard reflected this as they tallied 3 times. Bender would pick up his 2nd of the game (Warren & Drew McKee assisting) while Willis would add a couple (Karelse, Warren, Bryce Fletcher & Brenden Hall drawing assists) as the Cycs won 6-1.

The next night the Cyclones travelled to Walkerton for their 1st meeting of the season. Despite their record Walkerton battled hard throughout the game. Dannemann would open the scoring for Listowel as he buried the McKee rebound. Walkerton would tie the game mid-way through the 1st only to have Dannemann put the Cycs ahead again as he tucked home the Willis feed. In the 2nd period the local lads had plenty of chances but only Willis could find the back of the net (Warren & Hall assisting). The 3rd period started with the Capitals narrowing the gap just seconds into the period, but that would be as close as they would get as Cycs power-play would strike twice in the period. First it would be Willis unassisted then Karelse from Warren and Willis.  Warren would seal the deal late in the period (Fletcher & Bender assisting) giving the Cycs the 6-2 victory.

The bantams have just 3 more games before the Kincardine Silver Stick tournament and hopefully they can use these games as preparation for this tourney. The lighter schedule may also help the healing process as many players are nursing minor bumps and bruises. The teams next action is Sunday night in Listowel @ 7:00 against Goderich
