OMHA quarter finals - Game 1
Submitted By Mike Daviau on Wednesday, February 11, 2009
The Peewee A/E  team travelled to Dundas on Tuesday night, only to end up on the wrong end of a 6-4 score. In the first game of a best of five series the Listowel squad played catch up all night and in the end they simply ran out of time as Dundas managed an empty netter with only a few seconds left in regulation time to seal the deal.

A confident coach Bender commented that the boys can certainly skate with the Dundas team and sees no problem going forward in this series. " It was a new experience playing in an all-Ontario game for a lot of these guys and the nerves were showing a bit during this game" said Todd. He went on to add that now that the nerves are out of way we can get down to playing the kind of hockey that we are capable of. " We showed that we can play with these guys and our boys now see that, so the confidence and skills can shine through in the next game"

It was a game of catch up all night long and a tough spot to be in when a go ahead goal was dis-allowed by a referee who lost sight of the loose puck in the goal crease. That would have made for a 3-2 score in the second frame and who knows what could have been? As it was there was more catching up to be done, as each time Dundas would score would be followed by a Listowel tally. In the end the clock would be enemy number one for Listowel.

During the post game conference with the media the subject of the health of the Listowel team was brought up by a local TV interviewer in that 4 or 5 of the Listowel crew seemed to be battling colds and flu. This was quickly put to rest by the team trainer. Mr. Gottfried down played the issue by stating quite simply that: " We don't make excuses and we expect the boys to get a lot of rest and fluids over the next two days."

A healthier Listowel peewee team looks forward to game two in Listowel on Thursday Febbruary 12 at 8:00pm

The team hopes to see a lot of support at our barn on Thursday night
