Listowel Minor Hockey Association President’s Message
It was an exciting season for Listowel Minor Hockey, with the move to the new SKMC in December. Playing in the areas best arena is something all the organization’s players are very grateful and proud of. Thank you to the complex fundraising committee and those involved from the Municipality.
Congratulations to the Atom Rep and Juvenile teams on their OMHA Championship seasons, and the Juveniles winning in back to back years. For perspective, in the Atom Rep B to Juvenile B-BB categories there are 83 teams with ambitions of an OMHA championship. It is truly a great feat for Listowel to win 2 of the 5 available titles.
Congratulations to all the LMH teams & players, for their contributions to representing Listowel Minor Hockey; winning & losing, competing, creating memories & friendships, etc., this is what it is all about.
LMH and the community continue to support initiatives and programs, to support participation and ensure long term growth. Our Grass Roots program covers registration costs for Pre-school & Jr. Initiation program players, and funds on-ice programs to help them develop. This is sponsored by many local companies. Also, the Meulensteen Tire Hockey Helpers program provides registration sponsorship for all Sr. Initiation program aged players. We truly thank everyone involved in these programs.
Our Friday Night Skills program targets Novice & Atom aged players, focusing on and providing individual skill development, that normal team practice cannot achieve. We thank Richard Keeso for leading this, along with all his veteran helpers. Finally, we have our Saturday morning goalie clinics, run by Steve Leith and volunteers. This provides our goalies the opportunity for one-on-one skill development.
LMHA increased again this past season to 19 teams, which does not include our Pre-school or Initiation players, which are also on the rise. With this, we thank the many volunteers: coaches, trainers, managers, referees, and executive members, that are needed to make things run.
Finally, LMH acknowledges the tragedy that happened to the Humboldt Broncos Jr hockey team.
As you know we had a collection at the banquet to donate on behalf on LMH players and parents to the Humboldt Broncos gofundme program. Today LMH made a donation of $1921.46 to this fund. We would like to thank each an every one who donated at the banquet and also a big thank you to the teams who donated their door fee rebates.
