Bantam Reps and Saugeen Shores Tie One On
The Bantam Cyclones opened the regular season with a 7-2 victory on Friday evening in Mitchell.

Ben Verkley got the Cyclones started by netting a hat-trick in the first period.  Darren Kerr added a single to end the period with a 4-1 lead for the Cyclones.  Kerr tallied again in the second period and then Connor Johnson and Zac McPhee added third period goals to round out the scoring.  Luke Binning picked up a pair of assists, with singles to McPhee, Kyle Sippel, Justin Bauman, Cody Matheson, Alex Balthes, Ben Ashworth, and John McKeown.  Brett Fletcher picked up the victory in net for the Cyclones.
Sunday evening the Saugeen Shores Storm skated in to Listowel for the regular season home opener. Those in attendance witnessed a very entertaining, fast paced, and hard hitting hockey game.  Ryan Hak matched the Saugeen Shores goalie save for save in this defensive battle.  After a scoreless first period, and more than 10 minutes of scoreless play in the second period, it was the Cycs who got the first goal of the game, while shorthanded.  Some good pressure on the penalty kill resulted in a turn-over at the Saugeen Shores blueline and Verkley stepped into the high slot and caught the goalie moving the wrong way with a nice wrister.  The Cyclones held the lead till the last minute of the game when Saugeen Shores pulled their goalie and scored the equalizer with 23 seconds showing on the clock.
The next action for the Bantams is this weekend when they travel to Simcoe for The Boston Pizza Classic Tournament.
