Bantams Win Opener at Simcoe Tourney
The Bantam Cylones defeated the Hamilton Phantoms 4-3 to win their opening game at the Boston Pizza Classic in Simcoe.

Darren  Kerr got the Cyclones started on the powerplay early in the first period.  He scored on a hard slapper from the point just over 2 minutes into the game.  Connor Johnson and Ben Verkley picked up assists on the goal.  The Phantoms tied the game just a minute later while shorthanded.  But 2 minutes after that, Justin Bauman banged home a nice behind the net feed from Luke Binning to restore the lead. Verkley also picked up an assist on the play.  The lead held up until the last minute of the second when Hamilton tied it again.  Hamilton then took the lead with just 3:31 left in the game.  However the Cycs didn't quit and Binning redirected a McKeown shot through the five hole just a minute later to tie the game at 3-3.  Travis Bender earned an assist on the play.  Forty seconds later Kerr found the net on a shot that the goalie stopped but the puck went high in the air and fell in behind him.  Johnson and Kyle Sippel picked up assists on the goal.  The Cyclones and goalie Brett Fletcher held tough for the final 2 minutes and secured the victory.  Tomorrow's action will see the Cycs play the Stayner Cyclones at 12:30 and the host Simcoe Warriors at 5:10.
