Cyclones Calm the Storm
On Monday Dec. 8th the Pee Wee AE's travelled to Southampton for an 8 pm tilt. With a hard fought 5 -3 victory, the Cyclones extended their current winning streak to 4 games.
With only ten skaters dressed it did not look good for the Cycs. The first few shifts were all Saugeen Shores. Cyclones goaltender Steven Gottfried did everything he could to keep his team in the game. With Gottfried turning aside shot after shot, the Cyclones were fortunate to be down only one goal after the first. However, early in the second, a neutral zone turnover saw Riley Conners race into the Storm end. Conners somehow managed to find Graden Gieger who in turn fed the puck to Owen Bender. Bender made no mistake tying the game at one. Seconds later, Bender would notch his second of the game. Assists going to Geiger and Conners. With momentum now shifting and the Cyclones swirling, Tyler Russell would find the back of the net with Austin Service and Tyler Bannerman drawing the assists. Less than a minute later, Graden Geiger ripped a wrist shot past the bewildered Storm goaltender. Thru two periods the Cyclones lead was now 4-1. Third period action saw a focused Storm team score two unanswered goals to draw within one. The Cyclones, skating and checking for all they could, were finally rewarded when Owen Bender sent Graden Geiger in alone on the Storm goal. Once again, Geiger would drill home a high wrist shot. The Cyclones would then close out the Storm with an awesome display of defense. Final score. Cyclones 5 Storm 3. Pee Wee AE's next home action is Wed. Dec. 10th vs Mitchell @ 6:30 pm.
