Regular Season Nears End
The Novice are winding up their regular season schedule against some of the top teams in the league.

On Friday Jan 22, Listowel played host to a strong team from Goderich who were looking for revenge. The visiting Sailors came out strong and grabbed an early lead, 1-0 after one.  The second period was a close one as Goderich scored their second goal of the game before Riley Kuepfer, with assists from Brandon Wall and Keaton Yungblut, scored to make the game 2-1.   Listowel tried to keep it close in the third period and were trying to get the equalizer. However, the Sailors scored late in the third to win 3-1.
The next afternon, the boys travelled to Bayfield to play BCH for the 4th time.  BCH opened the scoring in the first period with two quick goals.  Listowel mounted a comeback in the third and scored a couple of goals before BCH answered with their 3rd of the game.  The boys roared back to score again to end the period 3-3.  Listowel went ahead early in the third only to see BCH counter with another two goals to take a 5-4 lead.  However, late in the third, the boys staged yet another comeback and scored their 5th goal and settled for a 5-5 tie.   Goals were scored by Kuepfer with 3 for the hat-trick and one each by Blair Johnson and Keaton Yungblut.   Assists to Yungblut (1), Sam Town (2), Cullen Elg (1), Brett Reesor (1), Johnson (1), Sage Buchanan (1), Brandon Wall (1), Keegan Long (1), and Connor McGrath (1).
This past Saturday, the boys travelled to Goderich looking for revenge of their own.  Eric Vander Eyk opened the scoring midway through the second period on a rebound.  Assists to Yungblut and McGrath. After the host team tied it up 12 seconds later, Blair Johnson put the visitors up once again with assists to Kuepfer and Wall. The see-saw battle continued as Goderich would score the next two goals.  Midway through the third period Kuepfer broke in alone and scored a beauty goal as it went in the top corner. Assists to Johnson and McGrath. Final score 3-3.  Some key saves by Travis Bannerman throughout the game helped preserve the tie.
On Sunday, Mitchell came to town for an afternoon game.  Listowel was clearly looking for a much needed win.  And it showed throughout the game as the boys were pressing hard and creating many scoring chances the whole game.  Listowel opened the scoring with a rebound goal by Vander Eyk with assists to Yungblut and McGrath.   Vander Eyk scored again early in the third with assists again going to Yungblut and McGrath.   Brandon Wall would add a third goal late inthe third, with assists to Elg and Buchanan.   Listowel looked to be on their way to a shutout, but a last ditch 2 on 1 effort from the Mitchell squad would finally put one by Bannerman with 1 second remaining.  Tough break!!
The boys have one more game left this week and then they will have to wait to see who they meet in the first round of the playoffs.  Good luck Boys!!
