Playoffs Are Off To A Good Start
The Cyclones work ethic and great teamwork has helped them to move on to round two of the playoffs.

The Peewee Rep’s playoffs began in Walkerton last Friday night.  Both teams came out working hard and the game remained scoreless until midway through the second.  Wade McPhee opened the scoring when he drove to the net and picked-up a rebound from Cole McKee and Parker Yungblut.  The lead was short lived as the Capitals tied it up just over a minute later.  McPhee would give the Cycs the lead again before the 2nd period ended, assists to Austin McGrath and Josh Gottfried.  Yungblut would extend the lead to two when he snuck in from the blue line, danced around a couple of Capitals defenders and took a shot from the hash marks to find the back of the net.  McKee and Ben Rothwell would get assists on the third goal.  The Cycs were assessed a penalty late in the3rd and the Capitals pulled the goalie, trying to get back in the game, but Curtis Jackson ended their hopes by picking-up a McKee pass at the blue line and firing it into the net.  The game would end in a 4 – 1 win for the Cyclones.  Braeden Ellis had a great game and would earn the win between the pipes.

Game two was back at home and the boys were confident after the first victory.  The Capitals came out to prove that they were not going to just give this series to the Cycs.  The first period saw lots of chances at both ends of the ice, but it would be McGrath who would open the scoring late in the first, assisted by McPhee and Rothwell.  Derek Fischer would give the Cycs a two goal lead early in the first when he banged home a rebound from Bailey Matheson and Rothwell.  The Capitals would cut the lead in half with just under six minutes left in the 2nd frame, but the Cycs would regain the two goal lead a couple of minutes later when McKee bent the mesh with assists from McPhee and Reece Reading.  Bryce Fletcher would round out the scoring with just one second left on the clock in the third, assisted by McKee and Reading, to give the Cycs another 4 – 1 victory.  Jacob Nethercott made some terrific saves in net to keep the Capitals scoring to one.

The boys traveled back to Walkerton for what turned out to be the final game of the series.  The 1st period ended tied at zero, but the tie was broken when Bryce Fletcher, on a solo mission,  fired a shot past the net minder just two minutes into the second.  Rothwell would go for a skate and would show off his soft hands and would light the lamp again late in the second, unassisted.  Just over a minute later, Reese Johnson picked-up a Matheson and Rothwell rebound and beat the tender to give the Cycs a three goal lead to end the 2nd.  McKee would add an insurance marker early in the 3rd with a nice pass from Gottfried.  The Capitals would try to battle back with a goal midway through the 3rd, but that was all the scoring that Ellis and the strong defense of the Cyclones would allow.  Final score, 4 – 1, again.

The coaching staff is very proud of how the boys are buying into the new systems that they are working on and how they are showing such great teamwork.  The team is looking forward to their upcoming series with the Kincardine Kinucks.
