Last Saturday concluded the 3 on 3 portion of our game schedule. The goal for this portion was to:
--increase our players battle/drive for the puck
--anticipate the play by doing the same thing over again (puck coming off the boards in our own end-go where the puck is going, not where it is)
--going to the net to ensure we spread out on the ice
--passing the puck to the front of the net
--giving kids the opportunity to play goalie in a game situation
This Friday will be the last night for phase 1 of our Power Skating instruction. Phase 2 will be in February on Saturday's).
The goals for phase 1 of powerskating were to:
-- teach balance
-- learn about the inside and outside edges of the skate blade
--begin to work on the "quick start" and finish with the "long stride"
-- transition from forwards to backwards

External games will start. Please look at the website under Tyke Red, White or Black for your schedule.
Because we have been focusing on the skills development as recommended by Hockey Canada, we have not practiced much in the game action part, so do not expect your child's team to be very competitive during this next portion. However, your child will skate fast, work hard and and gain confidence as we move through this portion. It is not about winning or losing, but about developing skills so that they will continue to improve and be able to enjoy the game for years to come.
