Midget AE win the Bob Tansley Memorial Tournament
Midget AE win the Bob Tansley Memorial Tournament.

Last weekend, the Midget AE team traveled to Tilsonburg to compete in the Bob Tansley Memorial Tournament.

Game #1 saw the boys playing their hosts, winning in dramatic fashion with a goal scored by Jacob Drager just seconds after Tilsonburg tied it up and with only 1:03 left in the clock.  Other goals scored by Nick Barclay and Owen Dunbar.

Game #2 was against Tavistock early Saturday morning, maybe before all the boys were awake!  While on a delayed penalty, the Cyclones caught a lucky break when a Tavistock player attempted a shot from the blue line.  The shot was blocked by Tyson Hamilton, and thanks to the “Hockey gods”, it slid the length of the ice into Tavistock’s open net!  The final score was a 1-1 tie.

Game #3 vs Strathroy found the boys struggling to find their legs and capitalize on the power play.  Mika Bolognone scored the lone goal in a 3-1 loss.

While the Cyclones finished fourth overall, they secured a spot in the semis against first place, Dorchester.  In a game the Cyclones dominated with their speed, the boys handed Dorchester their first loss of the tournament.  2 goals potted by Carter Servais with a third, scored short-handed, by Jacob Drager and a shut-out earned by Travis Bannerman.
The final game took place a couple hours later against a strong Caledonia team.  The Cyclones played a very clean game, with many of the players and coaches on the opposing team commenting that it was the hardest, cleanest, game they played all tournament.  With goals by Jacob Drager and the game winner by Isaiah Schultz, the Cyclones took the championship with a 2-1 win.

Congratulations to Midget AE team on a hard fought tournament and many thanks to the coaches, bench staff and parents for all their support.  Now to tackle Silver Stick!
