2019-20 season recap
The 2019-20 season proved to be a great success for the Listowel Red Peewee LL squad.  Overall, the team played to a strong overall record of 24-12-2 and was competitive in each and every game.  The coaches would like to thank every single player for their hard work and determination along the way.

This group of kids was a lot of fun to work with and fun was had all along the way.  The team was lead by a strong core of captains, with captain Kayden Hemlka leading the way with an incredible season due in large part to his hard work and commitment on the ice.   Assistant captains, Dean Burgoin, Cruz Fischer and Ted Zilliax also did there part to lead the group both on and off the ice.

Goals were not hard to come by for this group as a deep forward crop and no issues finding the back of the net.  The centre core of Helmka, Burgoin and Hunter Donahue had a steady season, all averaging at least a point per game.  This was due to the strong work and ability of their wingers whom helped carry the play and work on the forecheck.  The group of Sam Dennis (who ran into some terrible injury luck all season), Nic Tomlinson, Bruce Charlebois, Justin Boucher all hit the scoresheet multiple times and improved tremendously every game.  A special thanks to Maddex Sebastian & Rylie Williams whom bounced between forward and defense all season, never missing a beat.

The D-core was an all around effort, and the group of Zilliax, Fischer, Ben Robinson, and Darcy Armstrong did a tremendous job at both ends of the ice.  The team overall goals against avg was a stong 3.02 and this was due to strong work from the defense, as well as our top end goaltending tandem.  Jaxon McLaughlin & Harlen Hundt split the duties all season long and kept the team afloat and in all games with some highlight reel saves.

Overall, this group made Listowel proud as they had 2 very successful tournaments, losing in the finals in Parry Sound and playing in the B semi final in Seaforth tournament.  The team was also well represented in the shootout at the Seaforh tournament as approx 10 cyclones remained near the end of their group section (45 players).  3 players  managed the finals, Burgoin, Sebastian, and Williams - whom did a great job and made the final 10 skaters (of approx 80 that started).  McLaughlin also starred in this event and brought home the top goalie award.  The playoffs were also a great success, as the team battled to a 5-3 record in their group and lost a tough do-or-die final game vs the eventual group winners

As for the year end awards, they are always tough as we were a team first atmosphere all season.  The whole team was deserving in some way or another, but in the end our most proficient player was our captain Kayden Helmka.  This player scored over 50 goals on the season, but more importantly gave 110% and was an incredible teammate and leader.  He was a pleasure to coach and battled though a lot of abuse on the ice from opposing teams all season.  Great work Kayden!!!

Our teammate of the year was voted on by the players (whom all nominated 3 players).  To no surprise, all kids received a vote and numerous players had multiple votes.  In the end, the player chosen was Hunter Donahue.  This was a great choice, as Hunter brought a great attitude and sense of humor to the rink.  He never missed a game or practice all year, and this translated to success on the ice where he averaged very close to a goal per game.  Well deserved Hunter!!

I would like to thank my coaches, Matt Williams, Matt Fischer, Chris Martin, along with my manager Sandi McLaughlin, asst trainer Alisia Williams and equipment manager Bill Hemlka.  You all played a key role in the success of the season and your efforts did not go unnoticed.  Thanks to all for a fun and exciting season which was highlighted by a few white knuckles overtime battles.  The players should be proud of their efforts as they have given their coaches and fans some memories that will last a life time.  Well done team!!!
