LET THE SILVER STICK BEGIN!
The Bantam AE's travelled to St. Clements on Thursday night for their first game of the Silver Stick Tournament. The Cycs were carrying a two game win streak into the tourney and were hoping to maintain their momentum against a big and fast team, the Ayr Flames.
Ayr came out flying and were rewarded with a goal on the second shift of the game. A majority of the first period was played in Listowel’s end. The score at the end of the first was 2 – 0 in favour of
Ayr.
The Cyclones regained their composure and managed to hold
Ayr off of the scoreboard during the second period with some strong defensive play and timely saves by goalie Mitchell Smith.
Early on in the third, the Cyclones found themselves down by three, but Zach McPhee found the back of the net a couple of minutes later with assists going to Cory Wilson and Alex Balthes.
Two and a half minutes after our first goal,
Wilson put one in the top shelf on a nice feed from Balthes on a two on one.
That was all of the scoring that the crowd would see from the Cyclones, but
Ayr lit the lamp one more time halfway through the third.
Final score was 4 – 2.
All of our Cyclone boys played a great game and they are looking forward to their next game on Friday afternoon against Tillsonburg at the
Wellesley arena.
