Midgets Win Regional Silverstick
The Listowel Midgets won the Wingham Regional Silverstick over the weekend.

In what was likely the best game of the tournament, the Listowel Cyclones were matched against the Tavistock Titans in the semi finals on Sunday morning. In what was a match of two favourites in the tournament, both teams came to play get hockey in what turned out to be a three overtime thriller with resulted in a dramatic finish.

The game was back and forth most of the game with both teams exchanging scoring chances throughout the game. A battle between goaltenders ensued as Listowel's Ben Nelson made numerous saves to keep Listowel on the brink of elimination. With Listowel trailing 1-0 with just around 11 minutes left in the third period, the puck squirted loose to the point and Listowel's Derek Fraser layed into a rolling puck blasting the shot by the Tavistock netminder. Making the score, 1-1, which was how regular time ended.

It took two full overtimes, numerous powerplays by both teams, and lots of shots on Listowel's part, but with 8 minutes left in triple OT, Fraser again layed into a shot from the point that found the 5-hole of the Tavistock netminder giving Listowel the glorious win and a chance at the finals later that afternoon.

In the final game, it seemed to be the momentum carried over from the game before as Listowel dominated from start to finish with numerous shots on a tired BCH team. Listowel seemed to be just in a class of their own as BCH could not match the offensive power and strength that Listowel showed to beat Tavistock a couple hours before. Listowel went on to record a 8-0 win and the Wingham Regional Silverstick Title. Listowel now heads to International Silverstick January 15,16 & 17.  Go Cyclones Go.
