Weekend Wrap-Up Feb. 13
The Atom AE Cyclones played their only game of the weekend at home versus Mitchell.
After losing a couple games to Mitchell during the last half of the season, the Cyclones hoped to have a different outcome this time around. The game would prove to be close, just as expected. Listowel came out with a bit of energy to start the game, and controlled the first few minutes. However as the team was not able to score the game evened out. Both teams spent some time in the offensive zone, but the period would end scoreless.
The second period was filled with penalties as both teams had powerplay opportunities. Both teams once again had a couple chances, but with good goal tending and defensive play, the game would head to the third period with no scoring.
To start the third Listowel looked to gain some momentum. They were rewarded with a couple of power-play opportunities, but once again were unable to capitalize. The team continued to play good defence in front of their goalie, and regular time ended with a 0-0 tie.
After some heartbreaking losses late in the game in previous weeks, the Cyclones felt they were due for an overtime win. With that thought in mind they came out playing well in overtime. They managed to get a few pucks to the net and gain some momentum. Finally, half way through the extra frame some hard work in the offensive zone resulted in a rebound goal for the Cyclones giving them a 1-0 win.
The Cyclones are now 2-0 in round robin play and will face BCH at home this Saturday followed my Mitchell on the road on Sunday.
