Midgets Hardwork Secures Win
The Midget Cyclones travelled to Port Elgin on Saturday night to play the Saugeen Shores Storm in regular season play. The hard work displayed by the Listowel team proved to be the difference.

The game started off real slow as the Listowel team came out looking as though they each had eaten an extra ten pounds of candy the night before. Saugeen opened the score in the first period with a goal around the 9 minute mark which ended up being the only goal of the first period. Strong goaltending by David Irwin kept Listowel in the game for most of the period.

After a little discussion in between the first and second period, Listowel seemed to take their game to a different level. The Midgets got things going at the 9 minute mark of the second -- on the powerplay -- as Ben Norman got a nice pass out of the corner from Jonathan Hunsberger which he buried upstairs on the Saugeen netminder. Listowel continued their hardplay and at the 6 minute mark, George McKeown took a pass from Dilan Boisvert and worked his magic through the neutral zone busting through the Saugeen team; eventually, dishing a nice pass to Hunsberger who went in on a partial breakaway putting it home to make the game 2-1. Listowel continued their second period dominance with pressure on the Saugeen defence throughout the rest of the period. With just under 2 minutes remaining Justin Jacklin fed McKeown who took a quick shot from the top of the circles. McKeown followed in his shot to pick up the rebound and put it home to extend a 3-1 lead going in to the third period.

Listowel came out flying to start the third; however, the gritty play led to a penalty by Jacklin. Listowel started the penalty kill off with hardchecking which resulted in a mistake from the Saugeen defence. Jamie Burns intercepted a pass across the ice, passed it over to Hunsberger who went in to extend Listowel's lead to 4-1. Josh McPhee put Listowel ahead 5-1 at the 12 minute mark of the third and Listowel never looked back. The game ended in a 5-2 score.
