AE’s Remain at the 500 mark
The midget AE’s came away with a win and a loss this week versus Clifford and Mt Forest respectively

Wednesday night the local Cycs travelled to Mt Forest to face the midget Rep Rams. The Rams controlled the tempo of the game right from the puck drop which seemed to catch the locals by surprise. Solid goaltending by Ryan Hak kept the Rams off the scoreboard until late in the 1st period. Mt Forest would add a couple more goals on the power-play in the 2nd, taking a 4-0 lead into the break. The Cycs competed better in the 3rd period but it was a case of too little too late as Mt Forest walked away with the 6-1 victory. Scoring Listowel lone goal was Cory George.

Sunday afternoon the AE’s travelled to Clifford hoping to regain the 500 mark for the season. This game was a complete reversal of Tuesday’s game as the Cycs dominated from the onset. George would open the scoring burying a Jason Hollinger rebound while Matt Wilkans would quickly follow with a blast off an offensive faceoff (Marty Richards with the assist). The Listowel team would maintain the pressure through the next period but where unable to beat Clifford’s goalie as he made several big stops to keep his team in the game. Despite the total dominance Clifford would tie the game early in the 3rd, but hard work & a little luck would eventually pay off as Jordan Rumph would put the Cyc ahead for good as his point shot was tipped past the Clifford net minder by his own player. George would add the empty netter (Steve Cleary picked up the assist) giving the Cycs the 4-2 victory.

Assistant coach Jerry Rozendal, who was unable to be on the bench, noted, “you can really start to see the hard fore-checking paying dividends”. Now a month into the season the team faces a couple challenges in the upcoming week as they host Saugeen Shores on Tuesday night, then head to St Clements for the Regional Silver Stick tourney.
