First Tournament and Regular Season Games Completed
The Novice Rep team competed in their first tournament of the year on October 12th & 13th in Clinton.

They came up against some very stiff competition and ended up on the wrong end of all three games.

First up on Friday night was the South Huron Sabres.  South Huron took the early lead and increased it to two on an offside goal (ref even admitted it after) to lead 2-0 after the first.  In the second the team played much better but could not find the back of the net (even with a few good chances on a 5 on 3 powerplay) and the score remained 2-0 after 2 periods.  The kids then seemed to go flat in the third with the Sabres putting 4 more on the board with some fantastic shots to make the final 6-0.  Final shots were 16-9 for the Sabres.

Next up was a game vs the Ilderton Jets on Saturday.  This was a back and forth game with Ilderton going up by a few before Carter Coombs answered back with a powerplay goal (assisted by Ty Verbeek) after Logan Reyes had done a good job keeping the puck in at the blueline earlier in the shift.  The score was 4-1 after the first but the Cyclones were not going to give up.  The managed to close the gap to 6-4 after two periods.  Coombsy scored three more times in the second (assists to Camden McNevan and Harrison Taplay).  The third saw the team lose some steam as Ilderton managed to pull away with 4 more goals in the third to our 1 (Coombsy scored from Ben Nauta) to make the final score 10-5 with the shots ending up 21-14 in favour of the Jets.

The third game was against a strong Bandits team from London.  The Bandits came out firing on all cylinders to take a 4-0 lead before the end of the first period - shots were 16-0 with Ethan Baggio made many great saves to keep the score at only 4.  The second was a much better period with the kids generating some scoring chances (shots were only 7-4 in the second) and although we gave up 4 more goals we did manage to score one (Coombsy assisted by Camden).  The third was similar to the first period with the Bandits scoring 3 more to end the game with a 11-1 score.  Final shots were 32-4 with Ethan coming through with many great saves to ensure the score wasn't any worse.

On the Sunday we were back in the confines of the Listowel arena to play the Blyth/Brussels Bulldogs in our regular season opener.  These two teams were evenly matched and the play went back and forth with anyone having a chance to win.  Unfortunately we were on the wrong end of a 4-3 final score.  Goal scorers were Coombsy with 2 breakaway goals and Ben with a great backhand upstairs which had tied the game at 3.

After a weekend off the kids are back at it again this weekend with games Saturday at Seaforth and home on Sunday vs BCH.

Come out and enjoy some great Novice hockey.

See you at the rink.
